All About Skis and Snowboards
What is the widest ski you stock?
If you are looking for one of the widest skis on the market, we stock the Hell Bent from K2 at an amazing 132mm underfoot. Let’s not forget the K2 Pontoons are a whopping 130mm underfoot. These skis will give a lot of extra float and are spectacular in the deep off-piste snow that Niseko is famous for. We also have a great choice in our mid-fats with the K2 Coomback at 102mm underfoot, the Line Prophet 98 at 98mm underfoot just to name a few.
Do I need wide skis to ski powder?
It depends. For most skiers we recommend that you just increase the waist width slightly to give you a little more float.
Boot Sizes & How To Work It Out
Both ski and snowboard boot sizes are measured in centimetres (cms). Boot sizes range from 14.5cm up to 32.5cm. To estimate your size, place a ruler on the floor against a wall and stand with your back to the wall. Now stand on the ruler, with your heel against the wall, and measure how many cms long your foot is. Boot sizes are set on the half size, so if your foot measures 27cm your size is 27.5cm.
Snowboard Length
The smallest snowboard we carry is the Burton LTR Kids 90cm.
The longest snowboard in our fleet is the HEAD Intelligence 168 cm. We also have a selection of Powder specific boards like the Ride Slack Country in 161 cm, and the K2 Ultra Dream in 164cm. These powder boards are rockered to float effortlessly through the powder.
Pickup, Storage and Loss
Clothing
You will need a ski jacket, ski pants, warm waterproof gloves, long socks (always above the boot), goggles, a warm beanie and/or helmet, and a neck warmer to be able to still breathe after getting some epic powder shots. Helmets, ski jackets and pants are available for rent at NBS. You need to bring your own goggles or purchase at the NBS retail store in Alpen Ridge.
