Our AM and All day Children’s Programs are for children that are keen to have a great time, meet new friends and develop their ski or snowboard skills. NBS strives to develop skills in a way that sets all age groups up for success. NBS accepts kids between 3 and 14 years of age. We understand that the cognitive, physical and social development of children differs greatly amongst these ages. As such we group children according to their riding proficiency within 3 age ranges. In this way children are engaged with the appropriate communication, lesson pacing and skill development to suit their age and ability.

Specialist ski and snowboard instructors will work with each group to ensure that kids have the snow holiday experience of a lifetime whilst learning new skills in a safe and controlled environment.

The programs are tailored to suit children that are experiencing ski/snowboarding for the first time as well as those who have been shredding it up since they started walking. It’s all about fun and safety on the slopes for these energetic groups.

What to expect
  • Children and parents can meet the instructor from 9:20 or 10:20 for Powder Puppies & Ride Tribe in the morning at the kids meeting area

  • The first few runs will assess the children’s ability to ensure they are in the correct ability level group. They will the focus on the skills to develop the ability of the group together.

  • The group will stop for lunch at 12:30. Those booked into the AM group will be collected at this time and those booked in all day will go to one of the lunch rooms for lunch prepared by Fresh café and entertainment.
Please note
  • We encourage all participants to wear helmets.
  • Children may be moved between groups to best suit their ability level
  • Kids lessons do not include a lift pass.
  • Participants must have a suitable snow/skiing travel insurance.
  • Registration forms must be completed when you meet the instructor and attached to each child’s jacket.
  • If your child has a food allergy, you will need to notify the Kids Program Manager upon your arrival on your first morning.

We are only able to accommodate children 3 years of age and above in Kids Club lessons. It is also required that participants are toilet trained. We do, however, accept private lesson bookings for children younger than 3 years of age.

This depends on the lesson type taken. We can only accept snowboard group lesson bookings from children 7 years of age and above. Private snowboard lessons, however, can be booked for children of any age.

Yes, every participant in Kid’s Club must arrange a valid lift pass well in advance of lessons. It is not unusual for beginner children to advance very quickly during the lesson. Depending on the circumstances, your child may take their first chairlift ride sooner than you expect. Please note that although children the age of 6 and under ski free, they will require a valid Grand Hirafu lift pass to operate the gates. These are available free of charge from any Grand Hirafu lift ticket outlet, although a JPY 1,000 deposit is required.

Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate requests for specific instructors in Kids Club group lessons. We do however do our best to assign the same instructor to the same group all week long. We recommend booking a private lesson should you wish to request a specific instructor for your child.

Yes, the instructors generally take groups in for a short hot chocolate and/or bathroom break during morning and afternoon Kids Club Lessons. Our Kid’s Club room, located in the NBS headquarters at the base of the Family Lift has excellent facilities and is attended by our friendly NBS staff.

We recommend that you watch from a vantage point where your child cannot see you. It is very distracting for both child and instructor and can take away from having a positive learning experience. It is difficult for a child to stay engaged in the lesson when their parents are present. Parents cannot join in the lesson.

We require parents and guardians to fill out a registration form with emergency contact details prior to all Kid’s Club lessons. Please ensure that you drop in to see the front desk staff to do so before your lesson starts. We also ask that you regularly check you phone throughout the day in case we have contacted you.

On the first day of classes, all Kid’s Club participants are assessed to ensure that they are placed in the correct level and lesson. If you or your child has concerns about lesson allocation, please discuss this with one of our Kid’s Club Attendants or our Kid’s Club Manager, who will be present at the morning split.

Yes, we require parents to accompany their children to ski school check in and to sign their children out either at lunch or at the end of the day. This is also a good opportunity to discuss your child’s progress with their instructor.

Yes, we ask that you complete a Kid’s Club Registration form prior to your child’s first lesson. These are available at the NBS Front Desk or on the meeting area.

Kids Club groups come in for lunch and for short rests throughout the day. The instructor will determine how the children are handling everything and organise the lesson and rest breaks accordingly.

Unfortunately, we are unable to cater to any allergies, dietary requirements or medical conditions. If your child has specific allergies or dietary requirements we ask that you either collect them over lunch or leave food with our Kid’s Club Attendants in the morning. We do have the facilities to refrigerate and heat cut lunches. Please note that our Kids Club is not an allergy free zone and other children are free to bring along any food they choose. If your child is highly allergic and this may cause problems, we would recommend collecting them over the lunch period.

If your child is enrolled in an all day lesson, lunch is included in the lesson price. Food will be served during designated lunch breaks, at which time all children will be supervised by our Kid’s Club Attendants. If you child is not booked in all day, lunch is not included in the lesson price.

The Kid’s Club lunch menu rotates on a regular basis and includes a variety of western and Japanese meal options. Recent menu items have included mixed vegetable stir fry rice, hot dogs, karaage chicken with rice and vegetables, and ham and cheese wraps. Please note that, unfortunately, we are unable to cater to individual food allergies and dietary requirements.

For safety reasons, we strongly recommend that all children participating in Kid’s Club wear a helmet. Helmets are available for hire or purchase at the NBS rental/retail store at the base of the Family Lift.

We ask that Kid’s Club participants come to their lessons fully equipped to ski or ride. We recommend at least 3 layers of clothing, warm socks, waterproof gloves or mitts, goggles, a helmet, sun block and a neck warmer. Of course, your child will need the requisite equipment to ski or board. Please clearly label all items of clothing and equipment to prevent mix ups over the busy lunch period!

If your child is booked into full day Kid’s Club lessons, we can provide overnight storage for skis/boards ONLY free of charge. However, we are unable to store boots and other belongings.

You do have the option of booking Morning Only lessons and upgrading to All Day lessons once you are here, however we cannot always guarantee a space in an afternoon class during busy times.

Children 14 years and younger are not eligible to join our Adult lessons.

Children aged 9-14 years learn and act very differently to adults aged 50-60 years. This directly affects how our instructors approach their lessons and the teaching styles they adopt. Depending on the guests’ stage of the development, instructors will use different terminology, exercises, drills, progressions, lesson pacing and terrain selection. In addition to these lesson differences, our duty of care for a child under 15 years is vastly different compared to that of an adult.•Our past experience has shown that children aged 9-14 really enjoy and get the most out of skiing with similar-aged children who are of equal ability in our Kids Club learning environment.

Our Early Riser package allows children to be dropped off at Kids Club from 8:30am for one or two hours before the commencement of their lesson. This service costs JPY1,500 an hour per child, per day. All kids club ski lessons start at 9:30am and Kids Club snowboard lessons start at 10:30am.

Junior Mountain Riders (JMR) is a service available for groups of 4-7 children who are level 6 or above in skiing or snowboarding ability.
